Day two of the 2017 NACC conference from UNT
June 13, 2017

The NACC’s preconference activity this year was a tour of the Dallas Cowboys Football Stadium and the Texas Ranger Baseball Stadium.  The group of 67 NACC members took a break between tours to have lunch in an outfield club room.

Our group of university and vendor members departed the Host Hotel at 7:45am.  The adventure started with a behind the scenes tour, team locker room, cheerleader locker room, concession stands, warehouse, club level, team store and an open discussion with the stadium food service management.

The NACC members took a short bus ride across the street to the Texas Rangers baseball park and a little time to relax while eating lunch.

After lunch the group was escorted on a tour of the baseball park, concession stands, suites, team store and more.

The opening evening will start with university and vendor members bussed out to the Circle R Ranch.  The buses were greeted by the ranch cowboy staff.

The members relaxed with a beverage and great food.  We had slow smoked BBQ brisket, smoked sausage, Texas style beans, potato salad, cole slaw and bread.   If that didn’t fill you up there was white chocolate bread pudding with amaretto sauce or roast a marshmallow over the fire.

Entertainment included quick draw competition, mechanical bull riding, corn hole games and siting out on the porch visiting with friends.

Day three of the 2017 NACC conference from The University of North Texas
June 14, 2017

Day three started with breakfast at either the host hotel or outside the meeting room.

John Gibson opened the day by showing us a welcome to UNT video from Wren Baker VP and Director of Athletics.  John then introduced Hank Dickenson Deputy Athletic Director, who spoke to our group.
The members then took a tour of the Apogee Stadium concession operation.  John and Hank showed off stands with new hoodless fryers. Members took a look at storage, coolers, POS system, equipment layouts and asked questions.  All that had some members taking photos of ideas to take home to their own operations.  The facility tours are a great part of the NACC conference and members enjoy taking a look and discussing what other facilities have, how they are laid out, what are their flaws and how would you do that different if you could redesign it now!
Theresa Traulsen – NACC Executive Director – took time to thank the vendors for participating in the conference and being a part of the NACC membership.  Remember to get signed up for the email blasts and post your company product information on the NACC “New Product” page for all the NACC members to see what your company has to offer all year long.  She reviewed some changes coming as a portion of the new website gets ready to go live.

University and Vendor members joined together outside the stadium for the NACC conference group photo.  Say Cheese!!!

The 2017 tradeshow was next on the agenda. We had a great group of vendors that participated in the tradeshow this year. Several are new vendors to the conference.

We want to thank each of the vendors that presented at this year’s tradeshow and hope that the members that were not able to join us at the conference take a look at the vendor’s company websites or call on the companies if they are interested in getting samples or product materials sent to them.

Go to www.nacc-online.com, Directory page, there you will find a list of all vendors that are current members of the NACC. Click on a company name it will take you to each company website. Several vendors are listed on the product page of the NACC website.

We hope that everyone enjoyed the scavenger hunt during the tradeshow, thank you to all those vendors that participated.  After the tradeshow members stopped by the NACC booth to picked out their tradeshow participation gift.  This year the Go Pro drawing went to Kari Magee!  The first tablet drawing went to Robin Janney and the second went to Balram Pande.

We had a little bet to pay off Army beat Navy so Bill had to do 25 pushups saying “Go Army” for each one.  Joe being the Army man he is, never lets a man do pushups by himself.

After the tradeshow was over the members started the General Session.   Shawn Corr, NACC President opened the membership general session.  The NACC board had several topics to discuss with the membership.

  • A sneak peek at the new website.
  • Discuss future conference site locations – we are looking for a University to volunteer to be the host for the 2020 conference.
  • BYU – July concert event.  Aaron Black has volunteered to host a site visit event during next year’s July concert they have.  It is around the 4th of July, but the date and the band is not confirmed until next March.
  • Executive Director – the search for a new Executive Director will begin in the next few days.  Theresa thanked Hope Kaser for all the help she has provided the NACC and Theresa over the years as this will be her last year as the Executive Director assistant.

Our next education sessions were 3 round table sessions presented by:

  1. Social Media – John Gibson UNT
  2. Scheduling and Training – Chris Lauber – R.E. Arena
  3. Catering cutting edge trends – Kristy McGaughey – UNT Verde

Members headed back to the hotel for a little down time and get ready for the LSA Burger dinner.  The NACC had the roof top deck all to ourselves.  Vince Lujan Project was the live band for entertainment, good eats and beverages! Both university and vendor members had a chance to unwind and enjoy Denton Texas.
During dinner we redrew for the Cres Cor as Chad is not in attendance at the conference.  This years Cres Cor unit goes to….. Stanley Watkins at University of Virginia.
After dinner members had a chance to explore the downtown area, UNT vans circled between downtown and the host hotel for a couple hours.
NACC would like to thank the following conference sponsors for their support of the NACC.

Day four of the 2017 NACC conference from the University of North Texas
June 15, 2017

Day four and final day of the 2017 NACC conference started off with breakfast either at the host hotel or at the meeting room.

The NACC membership voting for the two open spots on the NACC Board. The new vendor board member this year is Jim Schwandt – Partners by Design. The new University board member is Alex Terranova – Michigan State University.  Congratulations Jim and Alex.
We also drew the winner for next year’s free hotel. And the winner is Zack Gates from Dixie state University.
We began the education session with NPO – John Sargeant and Cindy Grotefend – University of Oregon.  John and Cindy lead a great discussion and presented some great resources for NACC members.  There will be additional information in the July NACC newsletter. If you are interested in a copy of the handout please email John Sargeant.

The second session was guest speaker Johnny Quinn – UNT Football player and US Olympic Bob Sled. – Johnny was a great motivational speaker!

Member Open Forum was the third session of the day.  We changed it up this year and had the board members break into small round table size groups to talk about a whole host of subject that NACC members wanted to discuss.  Members had a chance to put topics into a suggestion box for the last couple days and the board divided and discussed.  I think everyone took a little nugget from the conversations.
The group broke for lunch.
Our three session was 3 – 30 minute round table session

  1. Chris Fisher – U. MASS covered Food trucks at events – How do you figure out the ROI?  What type of truck, equipment, and food work best?
  2. Brett Brestel, Marielena Cruz-Celaya and Larry Jones – U. Arizona discussed Buzz or Wow menu items that will grow your sales.
  3. Chelsea Luhta – Clemson University went over inventory control procedures.

A short break before our last guest speaker for the 2017 conference.  Larry Worthy – Special asst. to CFO/VP finance at UNT spoke to the group about protecting cash and your products.
Larry was fantastic, he had the room laughing for an hour.  Chris “Inventory” Lauber was picked on one last time.

The University of Arizona team presented a video showing the members what to look forward to next year. These are just a few of the highlights:

  • Trip to see Tombstone and Kartchner Caverns
  • Dinner at the University of Arizona stadium club
  • Dinner in Old Town – Where you might recognize some of the town from your favorite old cowboy movie.
  • The last evening we will visit Pima Air & Space Museum.

We will have 2018 conference information on the NACC web site soon for all members to review.   We are hoping to have registration for the 2018 conference on line starting the end of August.  Don’t forget that the buddle price is available when you register prior to September 15th.  The bundle fee includes the conference registration fee and the conference activity which is the tour Tombstone and Kartchner Caverns next year.  Contact Theresa directly if your school would like to find out how to use the new NACC VENDOR scholarship funds to have one person attend the conference from your University.
Dinner tonight was at the Apogee Football Stadium Club Level.  After dinner we had time to play some casino games or play a game of pool.  The top casino night winner was Bob Rowan from Future POS!!

Without the continuing support of the NACC sponsors and vendors we could not provide events like UNT provided the group this past four days.  Please join me and thanking all of the vendors that participated in the 2017 conference and support our members all year long!!
It was a great conference. We want those that were not able to make it to this year’s conference know that we will be sending out our bi-annual newsletter covering several topics.  Stay tuned for the new website in the next few months.
The NACC is committed to making sure that learning and sharing of ideas is passed along to as many members as possible. Please keep the NACC website forum page busy with questions, or post on the blog that will be coming on the new website.  Like the new NACC Facebook and twitter.  Share your success stories all year with the rest of the NACC members, as this is a great way to include members from all over the country. Also take a look at the product page throughout the year for new postings from our vendor members.
We are looking for a school that is willing to host the 2020 NACC conference. If you are interested please contact Theresa Traulsen at the NACC office for more details.
As Executive Director of the NACC I personally want to thank John Gibson, Stevie Haywood, Austin Eldred and all the support staff at University of North Texas Athletic Department they put on an absolutely awesome conference.  They showed everyone in the NACC organization exactly what team work really looks like.
Signing off until next June at The University of Arizona!
